Sign up for the "vote-no-to-war" petition against USA planning to attack Iraq against the will of most of the people in the world. Today, 15th of February is when anti-war rallies and demos are being staged all over the world by millions of people; estimated to be
over 10 million people total, world-wide.

There were 1 million protestors in London today, most of them
gathered in Hyde Park, and in New York city up to 500,000 were
in the Manhattan area. At least half a million people against the
war were assembled in cities throughout Australia.

However there were only 6 protestors in Singapore, but they
were chased away only after a few seconds of gathering in
front of the US Embassy, as demonstrations of any kind
are "not allowed" here.

That's why in some places this fish is sold as "black cod" or "cod fish" since the skin is dark colored, although the flesh is white. This is to conceal the fact that the Patagonian Toothfish is an endangered fish that is close to extinction and catching it is illegal.
C The Patagonian Toothfish does look like the fresh water sea bass and is also black in colour.
Janet, I believe that the large fish of about one-metre long (including the head and fins which are usually removed so that this fish cannot be easily identified) with white firm flesh are all from Chile or the Antarctic.

The local sea-bass are not as large or oily, and as you have said their meat is softer. Also, the toothfish are totally unrelated to sea-bass or cod, and are a different species of fish altogether.
C Thanks for the pictures. The meat looks like the ones bought from the markets. White tender and firm. Cost about S$26 per kilo and dont know if this comes from France, UK or Chilly. Our local sea bass is fresh water and the meat if soft. Not sure if this fish is same as the toothfish. They look quite similar - maybe cousins..................
Patagonian Toothfish also known as Chilean Sea-Bass or
Black Cod - close to extinction due to over-fishing

Here are some URL links to information on this endangered fish which is being sold worldwide in restaurants and in fish markets as "sea-bass" or "cod". At the rate they are being overfished, there won't be any of them left soon.

Vote No to the USA war with Iraq
Place your vote, make your voice heard
The "vote-no-war" group world wide is revving up their activities in anticipation of the USA preparing to launch its attack on Iraq anytime soon. This is their website URL :- http://www.votenowar.org

Except for George Bush and Tony Blair, there are not many people in favour of bombing Iraq and killing innocent people there. By all means assasinate Saddam Hussein and replace the Iraqi government officials who are guilty of crimes against humanity, but leave the innocent Iraqi people out of the killings and bombings.

This is the "vote-no-war" downloadable PDF flyer for the upcoming week's activities, which is also found in the website :-
